Built on an old Truck
Why buy a brand new truck when you just want the electric drivetrain?
Why Upgrade the Driveline Instead of Replacing the Entire Truck?
We believe in keeping trucks on the road for as long as possible. If you have an old truck with good frames but a bad motor or driveline, this is a prime opportunity to upgrade to electric for a lower price than buying a completely new truck.
Vocational Applications Benefit from Driveline Upgrades
This could be especially important in vocational applications where the cost of the body can easily outweigh the cost of the truck. Examples include oil and gas service rigs, crane trucks, garbage trucks, heavy wreckers, or other specialized applications. Rather than spending millions to replace the entire truck and body, it’s possible to just upgrade the existing driveline system.
Customizing with Edison Motors
If you don’t like the style of the Edison truck, unlike other manufacturers of electric trucks where you’re stuck with their style, with Edison Motors you can bring us the truck style you like, and we’ll convert it into an Edison Truck. It’s all about customer choice.
There are two options in this series: Rebuild or Remanufacture.
Rebuilding
Building upon the existing cab and frame rails
If you have existing truck with good cabs, good frame rails, and good air/electrical systems but just want to upgrade the driveline to electric this is the best option for you.
We take your existing chassis and install the batteries, VCU, and electric axles.
This saves a lot of time and money from remanufacturing a truck from scratch and we believe that it is always more sustainable to recycle than remake whenever possible.
Remanufacturing
brand new frame and chassis
For all intents and purposes this is a new truck built from the frame rails up.
Everything on it but the cab and body of your choice is new from factory
This is a way to get a brand new Edison truck while still keeping the style of the truck you like.
This method keeps the original truck VIN number and if diesel-electric can be the original motor or upgraded to Tier 4 emission standards. This is the way to have a classic older than 1999 truck be electric or tier 4 emissions to meet new environmental regulations.
Payload weight
When we retrofit Carl, before we started the truck weighed: 9000KG
When we finished the retrofit kit the truck weighed: 8,800KG
This means there is no reduction in weight to the truck*
In BC you get an addition 1500KG payload allowance due to being electric which means the payload capacity increased by 1700kg by making the conversion.
Retrofitting an older truck to be diesel electric results in hauling more freight for less fuel
*fully electric only does add more weight than diesel-electric due to larger batteries
Keep your existing Truck mounted equipment
For Vocational trucks its not always about the freight that you haul but the job you do.
With a rebuilt truck you can keep all your equipment on the truck.
Our e-pto and control system can seamlessly integrate with your existing system.
This means you don’t need to replace your entire body when you just want to upgrade to an electric truck.
