About the Role
Edison Motors is looking for an organized, hands-on Inventory & Materials Coordinator to manage the flow of materials from purchasing and receiving through to production.
As Edison continues to develop and build our trucks, having the right materials available at the right time is critical. This position will work closely with the Design and Production teams to understand upcoming material requirements, coordinate purchasing, receive and inspect incoming goods, maintain accurate inventory records, properly store materials, and prepare materials for upcoming builds.
This is a hands-on role that combines inventory management, purchasing coordination, receiving, material preparation and production support.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys bringing order to a fast-moving environment, pays attention to details, follows things through, and sees a problem and fixes it.
What You’ll Do
Purchasing & Material Planning
- Review material requirements and upcoming production needs with the Design and Production teams.
- Coordinate purchasing based on approved design plans, bills of materials and production requirements.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders and maintain accurate purchasing records.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding availability, pricing, lead times, shipping and order status.
- Monitor outstanding orders and follow up proactively on delayed or incomplete deliveries.
- Identify potential material shortages before they affect production.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels for commonly used materials, components and supplies.
- Work with Design and Production to identify changing material requirements and communicate purchasing impacts.
- Use inventory information and upcoming production requirements to anticipate purchasing needs.
Receiving & Inventory Control
- Receive incoming materials, components and supplies.
- Verify part numbers, quantities and specifications against purchase orders and documentation.
- Inspect incoming materials for damage, discrepancies or obvious quality issues.
- Record received goods accurately in the company’s ERP/accounting systems.
- Label and organize materials so they can be easily identified and located.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and physical inventory organization.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and investigate discrepancies.
- Maintain appropriate storage conditions and ensure materials are protected from damage.
- Communicate receiving issues, shortages, damaged goods or incorrect shipments to the appropriate team members and suppliers.
- Maintain an organized and efficient inventory area as the company and material requirements continue to grow.
Material Staging & Preparation
- Prepare and stage materials required for upcoming production activities.
- Pull materials from inventory according to production requirements.
- Ensure production teams have the materials they need when they need them.
- Organize material flow from storage to the production area.
- Develop practical systems for material staging, labeling and storage.
- Help improve material flow and organization to support efficient production.
- Work closely with production staff to resolve material-related issues and keep work moving.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Proactive and able to work independently.
- Comfortable working with numbers, spreadsheets and inventory data.
- Confident in communicating with suppliers and internal teams.
- Able to identify discrepancies and solve problems rather than simply flagging them.
- Comfortable working both at a computer and on the shop floor.
- Physically capable of receiving, moving and organizing materials, including lifting up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Adaptable when priorities change.
- Comfortable learning new systems and processes.
- Interested in finding practical ways to make inventory and material flow more efficient.
- A team player who understands that getting trucks built sometimes means jumping in wherever needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in inventory, purchasing, receiving, logistics, warehouse operations, production administration or a related field.
- Strong computer and organizational skills.
- Experience with ERP, inventory or purchasing systems is an asset.
- Ability to read and understand part numbers, purchase orders, bills of materials and technical documentation.
- Excellent communication and follow-up skills.
- Valid driver’s licence is an asset.
- Forklift experience is an asset.
- Experience in a manufacturing, automotive, heavy equipment or industrial environment is an asset.
What Success Looks Like
You’ll know you’re succeeding when:
- Production has the materials it needs when it needs them.
- Upcoming material requirements are identified before they become urgent problems.
- Purchase orders accurately reflect production and design requirements.
- Incoming materials are received, checked and recorded accurately.
- Materials are easy to locate and properly stored.
- Inventory records match physical inventory.
- Shortages, discrepancies and damaged goods are identified and addressed quickly.
- Suppliers receive clear communication and orders are followed through to completion.
- The production team spends less time looking for materials or waiting for parts.
- Inventory and material flow remain organized as Edison grows.
The Nature of the Position
This is a hands-on operations role in a growing manufacturing environment.
Some days will be spent working with suppliers, purchase orders and inventory systems. Other days may involve receiving a shipment, organizing materials, preparing a production pull or solving an unexpected material shortage.
Edison is growing quickly, and our systems continue to evolve. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with that environment and who can help keep materials, information and production moving.
If you enjoy organizing chaos, solving problems, working with people and keeping things moving behind the scenes, you may be an excellent fit for this role.
